Bed Skirts, Dust Ruffles, Valance Sheets
What are Bed Skirts, Dust Ruffles & Valance Sheets
The bed skirt, also known as valance sheet or dust ruffle, is placed between the mattress and box spring to cover the box spring, bed frame and under-bed space, and also add another decorative element to the bed ensemble. Most luxury bedding manufacturer's are now making 3 piece paneled adjustable bed skirts that are held with pins vs. the style that had fabric all the way under the bed mattress (aka decking). We love this style of adjustable bedskirt as it makes it much easier to adjust the bed skirt drop, to install the bed skirt, and to clean. Most of our bed skirts are this adjustable bed skirt style, also known as paneled bed skirts.
When measuring the drop for a bed skirt, you should measure from the top of the boxspring to where you want the bed skirt to fall. Feel free to choose your own height, some people like the bed skirt to reach the floor, others prefer to have the bed skirt 1-3 inches off the floor. On our site, you will find most bedskirts are marked with the maximum distance that the bed skirt will cover, and the great thing about adjustable bed skirts is that one that has a 18" drop will easily handle a 14" drop. Contact us if you need a specific bed skirt drop and cannot find one to match, as we have bedskirts that can be made in virtually any drop required, including 15" drop, 18" drop, 21" drop and 24" drop bed skirts.
You will also notice two main styles of bed skirts, Tailored and Gathered (and Ruffled). Tailored bed skirts are very clean looking, usually with one, or perhaps a few, pleated details, while Gathered (Ruffled) bed skirts have a wavy ruffled look. Several of our companies can make a bed skirt either tailored or gathered, so if you see a bed skirt listed that you like but it is only listed as a tailored bed skirt or gathered bed skirt, don't hesitate to inquire if it can be customized. We have bed skirts for Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and California King size beds.
